Hey there, Muslim parents!

Picking a name for a newborn is a big deal in Muslim families! The name is believed to influence their life and should reflect their Islamic values. Modern urban Muslim parents are often influenced by famous people across different genres, and they usually try to pick names that sound trendy and unique but also represent Islamic virtues and good qualities in the hope these names will inspire their children to be good and bring them blessings.

Arabic names are most popular because they connect the baby to the broader Muslim world. Sometimes, parents ask the family, the religious leaders (imam), or grandparents for ideas. The first name is often a memorable Islamic name, and the baby might have a shorter nickname for everyday use.

To help you out, Mom&Tiny put together a massive list of names for Muslim baby girl names. You can sort them by alphabet, popularity or even numerology.

First, let's examine the name lists directly. Later on the page, we'll also discuss some traditional ceremonies that Muslim families follow when naming their babies, like the special Tasmiyah ceremony.

How do Muslims Name Their Babies?

The Muslim naming ceremony, called Tasmiyah, is usually held within seven days of the baby's birth. The name is finalised during a naming ceremony where Daddy takes on his first significant duty of finalising the name of the little one. The ceremony is a heartfelt celebration akin to introducing your child to the world with a blessing.

The naming ceremony is generally accompanied by a ritual called Aqiqah, a beautiful tradition where the baby's head is shaved to symbolise a new beginning. Silver, gold, or other precious goods equivalent to the weight of the newborn's hair are donated as a charity.

After the ceremony, one or two goats are also sacrificed for a festive feast with family and friends. As an act of charity, one-third of the Goat meat is distributed to needy people.

Muslim baby naming practices encompass specific rules.

  • The 99 names of Allah should only be used with the prefix "Abdul," meaning "slave of."
  • Names that imply servitude to anyone other than Allah, names associated with tyrants, non-Muslim names, names of worship items, names associated with animals, names connected to the devil, and names without meaningful significance are considered forbidden.
  • Muslim baby Girl names often embody beauty and softness, even though they may seem feminine.

Choosing a meaningful and appropriate Muslim baby girl name for your kid is the first and one of the most important gifts you give to your newborn. It's an opportunity to embrace and uphold Islamic principles and customs. By carefully following the rules and drawing inspiration from Islamic sources, you may choose a name that expresses your child's beauty and spirituality.
